Australia is the most diverse country in the world.
There are over 300 languages spoken here.
30% of the population was born overseas.
20% of people speak a different language at home.

In comparison, our industry is monochromatic.
It does not reflect the rich tapestry of cultures and races that make up the fabric of Australia.

There is a disconnect between who we are and who we advertise to.

#OnlyOneInTheRoom was founded with the singular goal of creating a more culturally diverse and inclusive advertising industry.

We believe that diversity of experience and thought is the bedrock of creativity.
It is essential for storytelling and to connect with people in meaningful ways.
It is also extremely valuable to our clients and to minority groups and communities.

There has been much talk in high places about this issue. But there hasn’t been a lot of action. We need a grassroots approach; a way for all of us to move together towards more equitable representation.

#OnlyOneInTheRoom hopes to build this unity.

We welcome everyone of every race and culture to work with us, to propose initiatives, to drive change and to do something to make a meaningful difference.

#OnlyOneInTheRoom is committed to the future.

It is important for the diverse communities and individuals who want to pursue a career in advertising or marketing, who may not have role models or even an understanding of what we do, to realise that they have a future here. Changing the complexion of our industry is essential to achieving this goal. There needs to be a belief that this industry is not reserved for a certain few, but rather can offer a fulfilling career to people from all walks of life.
