Our goal is to address the lack of cultural diversity in the advertising industry. With this in mind, it’s important to note one glaring omission: we haven’t featured Aboriginal talent in the #onlyoneintheroom launch video. This was an intentional casting decision, taken after much deliberation, and conversations with Aboriginal leaders.

In our journey of learning, we’ve come to understand that the challenges faced by Aboriginal people are very different to those that affect other ethnic and minority groups in this country. Therefore, conflating these challenges is inappropriate. 

Additionally, in the context of advertising, Aboriginal people aren’t the ‘only one in the room.' In most cases, there are NO Aboriginal people in the room. Considering Aboriginal people are the oldest race of storytellers on the planet, it’s a very sad and unacceptable state of affairs which requires specific, targeted initiatives to address.

In the spirit of great love, respect and partnership, we’re collaborating with talented Aboriginal friends on a range of projects to help promote true reconciliation in this country.
